Teens identified in deadly crash on Highway 54 near Holts Summit

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has confirmed two people died in a crash on Highway 54 near Holts Summit.

According to troopers, a passenger vehicle traveling westbound crossed over into oncoming traffic where it was hit by a semi truck in the eastbound lanes.

The crash resulted in the death of Karlie Jones, 15, of Holts Summit and Caleb McClain, 16, of Jefferson Cityin the passenger vehicle. The driver of the truck, Francis Evers, 52, of Jefferson City suffered moderate injuries.

Both lanes are back open, but MoDOT warns traffic could still be slow throughout the afternoon.

When crews got to the crash site, they found natural gas coming from the truck’s engine; they were able to shut off the gas leak with no problems.
