Plane lands after being diverted to Columbia airport
UPDATE 4: The plane has been towed from the runway.
According to the city, the nose gear partially collapsed upon landing. No injuries were reported.
UPDATE 3: American Airlines flight 3509 from Dallas to Columbia Regional was diverted Wednesday night to Springfield-Branson National Airport. That flight is scheduled to leave Springfield at 10 p.m. It’s expected to arrive in Columbia at 10:30 p.m.
American Airlines flight 3453 from Chicago to Columbia was also delayed. It was scheduled to land at 9:50 p.m. That flight is now expected to arrive at 10:22 p.m.
UPDATE 2: The plane has landed at Columbia Regional Airport. It is unclear if anyone is hurt. ABC 17 News is on the scene and will have more information on ABC 17 News at 9 and at 10.
UPDATE: ABC 17 News confirmed a single-engine plane was being diverted to the Columbia airport after experiencing issues with its front landing gear on Wednesday, with only enough fuel to stay in the air for an hour and a half. One person, a pilot, was on board. Medical helicopters were called as a precaution.
Jefferson City and Holts Summit firefighters were first called to the scene around 6 p.m. Wednesday. ABC 17 News saw a plane circling the Jefferson City airport before moving to Columbia. Crews say they are trouble-shooting a few things before trying to land.
