Two arrested for shooting in central Columbia
Police have arrested two men in connection with a shots fired call in central Columbia last week.
Shortly before 8 p.m. on June 22, officers responding to reports of gunfire found an empty vehicle damaged by gunshots in the area of Garth Avenue and Business Loop.
According to investigators, that vehicle had been traveling on Grand Avenue with three people inside, including a 19-month-child, when it was shot. Bullets caused two of the victims’ vehicle’s tires to deflate, causing the vehicle to hit a parked vehicle on Lynn Street. The three people inside then ran away; one of the adults got several cuts and wounds from glass shattered by the gunfire.
Just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, police found and arrested two suspects in the shooting, Quenten Hurt, 24, and Darryl Troy, 23, both from Columbia. Both men have been charged with armed criminal action, assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.
Court documents suggest the suspects may be part of a gang known as the “Milwaukee.”
This isn’t the first run in with the law for the two Columbia residents. Hurt was previously arrested for promoting prostitution and Troy was arrested for assault.
Columbia Police Department told ABC 17 News back in October of 2015, that gangs are in Columbia and that their Street Crimes unit will look for the career criminals and get them off the streets.
