Man in serious condition after train, car collide in Boonville
UPDATE: The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the drivers of the car and train in Friday night’s crash.
The Patrol said Donald L. Wood, 73, of Ashland, suffered moderate injuries in the crash. The online report for the crash said Wood, driving a 2002 Ford Mustang, “stopped on the railroad tracks” when the Union Pacific train hit him. The train operator, 46-year-old Donald Stagner of Orrick, Missouri, did not suffer physical injuries in the crash.
Cpl. Gerry West said it appears Wood got on to the railroad tracks through a maintenance access and not a public access point. West said the man may have gotten lost trying to get to the casino. He said Wood tried to turn around when his tire got stuck on the tracks.
As of Saturday afternoon, hospital officials said Wood was in still in the hospital in serious condition.
