Police respond to possible gun shots in North Columbia

At least seven Columbia Police officers responded to Newton Drive early Sunday morning for a report of gun shots.

Scanner traffic indicated a caller told 911 they heard gun shots on Newton Dr. around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Officers patrolled the street but they told our ABC 17 News crews on scene they couldn’t find any evidence of a shooting.

The officer said it was probably fireworks.

It is not uncommon for law enforcement to get calls about gun shots that turn out to be fireworks.

Earlier this year, MU sent an alert to students about gun shots that turned out to be fireworks.
