Sewer construction closes parts of MKT Trail

Construction started Thursday in Columbia on the Flat Branch Sewer Relief Project #1.

The work is designed to improve sanitary sewer service and add capacity to a large portion of downtown Columbia.

The project is funded by nearly $4 million from the Sanitary Sewer Utility Capital Improvement funds.

The sewer work is near the MKT Trail, which will cause some closures and detours on the pathway.

Signs will be posted for trail users indicating a closure or detour along the trail.

The MKT Trail connectors at E. Clarkson Road closed on June 22 through September 15. A half-mile section of the trail between the Lakeshore access and Garth Avenue connector will be closed on July 6 through August 19. The dates are subject to change due to the weather.

Trail goers can use a detour around the construction by using Lakeshore Drive, Redbud, Edgewood and Lathrop Road. Road detour signs will be posted.
