Celebration planned for NBA champion Tyronn Lue’s return to mid-Missouri

The Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce says it’s planning a homecoming celebration for NBA champion Tyronn Lue.

Lue is the head coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers who recently won the 2016 NBA Championships.

Immediately following the win, Lue gave two shout outs to his hometown of Mexico, Missouri.

Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce says its planning on having a city wide celebration to show their immense pride for Lue.

The celebration will take place on July 2nd. City officials say it will kick off at 11:00am that day when Mr. Lue’s motorcade arrives in Mexico.

Lue’s motorcade will be be escorted by Mexico Public Safety, Little Dixie Fire District, and school buses filled with summer school students from Mexico Public Schools.

City officials say residents are invited to wear Cavaliers colors and line the motorcade route from the corner of Boulevard and Clark Street to Garfield Park. Once on Trinity Street, the crowd is invited to join in on foot and follow the procession to the park.

City officials say there are plans to invite the community to paint the Garfield Park pavilion in Cavalier colors before the event on July 2nd. They say banners, signs, and marquees will recognize Lue for his accomplishments. Area businesses are also invited to decorate their storefronts for the occasion.

The city is also inviting everyone to use the hashtag #TyLueHomeCourt as they share the event on social media.

Mexico Area Chamber of Commerce also says it’s planning the first annual Tyronn Lue Community day of Service in the fall in recognition of the many ways Lue has given back to his hometown.

It says the event is meant to recognize the positive imprint Lue has made on the community by supporting opportunities for the youth of Mexico and never missing an occasion to Mexico in the spotlight.

Tyronn’s Lue Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Display is also scheduled to take place at Garfield Park at dusk on July 3rd. The event is hosted by Lue and is free and open to the public.
