Commissioners make no changes to Cole County’s flag ordinance after discussion

Commissioners met Tuesday morning to discuss Cole County’s flag ordinance.

This comes one week after county leaders were met with enormous backlash for their decision not to comply with a presidential proclamation to display flags at half staff.

The proclamation was made to honor the victims of the Orlando shooting that killed 49 people.

Commissioners Jeff Hoelscher and Kris Scheperle voted against lowering the flag saying the honor would be diluted if it is given out too often.

After a large amount of public outcry, Scheperle eventually changed his vote last Tuesday . Hoelscher told ABC 17 News he stands by his original vote.

While several members of the public shared their disagreement with the current flag ordinance, no changes were made in Tuesday ‘s meeting.
