Summer weather pattern for the weekend

We have had 9 consecutive days with 90 degrees or higher and are expected to continue this streak through the weekend. A ridge of high pressure aloft had expanded to the north and east, shifting the main storm track or jet stream well to the north.

This type of pattern makes it difficult for storms to form due to sinking air aloft under the ridge of high pressure. If the pressure is high enough, it keeps clouds from forming. Also, as the air sinks, it compresses as it moves down to the ground and heats during that process, causing a large area of higher temperatures.

This pattern will persist into the weekend, giving us sunny skies and above average temperatures. High temperatures will reach near 90 Saturday and into the lower 90s Sunday. Fortunately, it won’t be very humid and our heat indices will stay in the low to mid 90s this weekend and nights will cool into the mid 60s to near 70.
