Devin Brown named Hickman Football coach
Hickman assistant Devin Brown has been promoted to head coach, the school announced Tuesday evening. Brown takes over for Arnel Monroe, who passed away suddenly on June 5.
Brown was an assistant under Monroe during the 2015 season after spending four seasons as Boonville’s head football coach. He resigned from his post in Boonville last April, saying he wanted to be closer to his family in Columbia.
Brown went 22-21 in four seasons at Boonville. His most successful season with the Pirates came in 2011, when Brown’s team went 10-2 and won a district title. Brown also spent three seasons as Mexico’s head football coach.
Below is a statement from Hickman Athletic Director J.D. Coffman on Brown’s hiring:
“This past weekend the Monroe family, Hickman High School and the Columbia community gathered to honor the loss of one of our leaders, Coach Arnel Monroe.
As a school and a community we will never forget the contributions Coach Monroe has made to Hickman High School and its Students.
We know that he would want us to continue to move forward and the care for the Kewpie football program which he gave so much of his life to. In that spirit we would like to announce the name of the coach who will lead the football team from this point through the fall.
It is my pleasure to announce that Coach Devin Brown will assume the Head Coaching duties of the Hickman Football team.
Please join me in welcoming coach Brown as the Head Coach of the Kewpies.”
