Columbia School Board set to vote Monday on construction bid for new East elementary school

The Columbia School Board is set to vote Monday evening on a bid and contract for construction of a new East elementary school.

The board meets Monday at 6:30 p.m. at CPS headquarters on West Worley.

This will be the district’s 23rd elementary school and will be located in southeast Columbia. CPS spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark tells ABC 17 News a groundbreaking ceremony will take place on June 23 at 9:30 a.m.

Construction is expected to begin in July, with a completion date of May 2018. The School Board packet says students are expected to begin attending classes at the new school in August 2018.

The CPS administration is recommending that the board award the bid to the lowest bidder meeting specifications. That is St. Louis-based K&S Associates Inc., in the amount of $17.2 million.

The Columbia School Board is also scheduled to vote Monday on a bid and contract for the Rock Bridge High School Stadium renovation project.

CPS administrators recommend that the board award the contract to Orf Construction in the amount of about $5.3 million. The board packet notes this project will make improvements to the Rock Bridge football field and the track and concession areas. If the board approves the bid on Monday, construction would begin later this month.

The Columbia School Board is also set to vote Monday on the 2016-2017 budget.
