Scooter driver crashes, airlifted to hospital

A man is airlifted to University Hospital after crashing his scooter in Jefferson City.

Jefferson City Police Officers responded to the 800 block of Myrtle Avenue for the crash around 12:50 Sunday morning.

Police say Douglas Wright was traveling eastbound on Myrtle down the hill toward Kansas Avenue. Wright lost control of the scooter and crossed to the westbound lane and struck the curb. He was ejected from the scooter into the guardrail.

Wright was taken from the scene by ambulance and later air lifted to University Hospital for treatment of his injuries. By 8 a.m., University Hospital said Wright was treated and released.

Police say Wright was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash.

The crash is under investigation by the Jefferson City Police Department Traffic Section.
