Child hit by police vehicle released from hospital

The boy hit by a police patrol vehicle at Stephens Lake Park has been released from the hospital.

The 8-year-old was hit by the police vehicle as the officer pulled onto a parking lot from the grass. According to the police department, the boy was playing in the dirt next to the vehicle’s front passenger tire, and was grazed by the vehicle as it passed.

The boy’s injuries were described as minor.

According to the Columbia Police Department, the K-9 officer was attending a special Cub Scout event at the park.
