Hot Temperatures Move in by Thursday
Heat and humidity will move in by Thursday, bringing the second weekend of June with well above average temperatures, and the first heat wave of 2016.
The humidity won’t do us much good by Thursday as well. Dew points will rise to the 60s for the end of the week, feeling more muggy this weekend and causing heat indices to rise to the upper 90s, possibly near 100 for parts of Mid-Missouri south of I-70 and closer to the Lake of the Ozarks and I-44.
A Heat Advisory is issued within 12 hours of the onset of extremely dangerous heat conditions. As a rule of thumb, for this Advisory, a maximum heat index is expected to be 100 degrees or greater for at least two days.
An Excessive Heat Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for an excessive heat event in the next 24 to 72 hours. A Watch is issued when the risk of a heat wave has increased.
An Excessive Heat Warning is issued within 12 hours of the onset of extremely dangerous heat conditions. A general rule of them for this Warning to be issued is when the maximum heat index is expected to be 105 degrees or higher for at least two days and night-time air temperatures won’t drop below 75.
