Hickman’s summer football camp postponed

Summer football camp for the Hickman Kewpies has been delayed, following the death of head coach Arnel Monroe.

Camp was scheduled to begin Monday. The team’s coaching staff and administrators will meet with the team Monday evening, and will base their decision for when practice will resume on the players’ sentiments.

The team was also to attend a football camp at Central Methodist University in Fayette on Saturday, but that has been canceled. Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark says the team, school, and administrators are all “taking it one day at a time right now.”

Monroe died Sunday morning from a heart attack, according to district officials. No announcement has been made regarding funeral arrangements.
