Providence Road closed for chemicals at Douglass Park pool

ABC 17 News confirmed both northbound lanes of Providence Road closed in central Columbia on Friday after two chemicals were accidentally mixed while maintenance crews got ready to open the Douglass Park pool for the season. It created a poisonous gas, but no one was hurt.

The closed section is between Park Avenue and Rogers Avenue, reported around 11:40 a.m.

City fire crews tell ABC 17 News a hazmat team was called to neutralize the mixture, but the public is not in any immediate danger. The pool’s opening has now been delayed. More details about when the area will be safe is expected to released after the scene is cleaned up and clear.
