Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office warns of potential phone scam

The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports of a phone scam.

Officials say several residents have reported getting calls from someone pretending to be with the department. He identifies himself as “Deputy Doyel.”

He reportedly asks people to call him back at 573-342-9107. The Sheriff’s Office says the voice mail with this number says that it is the sheriff’s department, but officials say it is not valid.

It’s unclear what the man is trying to accomplish at this point in time, but the Sheriff’s Office says it will never solicit any kind of payment over the phone.
