Highway Patrol holiday counting period ends early Tuesday morning

COLUMBIA, Mo- UPDATE:There were seven deaths related to car crashes that happened during the holiday weekend. In total there were 347 crashes in Missouri.

Of those crashes, 128 had injuries and 135 were arrested for drunk driving.

One of the deaths that occurred happened when Eric W. Teague, 43, of Springfield, MO, died when the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for a red light and struck him. The crash happened on U.S. Highway 60 at Zimmer Road in Springfield.

ORIGINAL STORY:The holiday counting period for the Missouri State Highway Patrol ended early Tuesday morning.

It began Friday night at 6 p.m. and ended early Tuesday morning at midnight.

There was one that was serious where a man swerved to avoid hitting a deer and crashed into a tree. Other than that, most of the crashes had minor injuries.

All throughout the state of Missouri during Memorial Day weekend in 2015 there were 298 crashes and eight of those had fatalities.

Aside from the crashes, this weekend 11 people were arrested for drunk driving.
