High crash zone in Columbia gets sign

A sign in Columbia is warning drivers about a high crash area.

Columbia police put up the sign at the intersection of Grindstone Parkway and Bearfield Road.

ABC 17 News checked Columbia police dispatch. As of Tuesday , officers were called to nine wrecks at the intersection so far in 2016.

ABC 17 News also checked traffic mapping data from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The records show there were 41 crashes from 2011 to 2015 near the intersection. Of those crashes, 7 were personal injury wrecks.

The speed limit in the area is marked at 50 miles per hour.

ABC 17 News has reached out to police to find out what led them to post the signage.
