Mizzou cross country previews the SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

For the first time in program history, the Mizzou cross country team will host the SEC Championships at the Gans Creek Cross Country course on Friday.

Head coach Marc Burns said it's a big opportunity to get MU national exposure.

"This is the first time we'll get to showcase it on national TV, so the whole world will get to see how great this course is," he said. "We've had a lot of good publicity up until now, a lot of good coverage, but this is our first opportunity for national TV."

The Tigers finished the season at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisc. on Oct. 15. The teams did not finish quite how they would have liked, both with overall finishes below 30th place.

Senior runner Sarah Chapman said she hopes her team can bounce back and finish where they know they can in one of her last races as a Tiger.

"It would be a great end to what's been the most incredible time," she said. "The team aspect of cross country is one of the reasons I love it so much, so it would be a great end in success and have everyone in high spirits.

The championships will kick off on Oct. 29 at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
