Increased concern of traffic on Old Mill Creek Road

COLUMBIA, Mo- Construction crews recently re-opened a section of Scott Blvd that created more access to Route KK.

Concerned viewers have called saying they keep seeing accidents happening near Old Mill Creek Rd. and Route KK, possibly due to the increased traffic flow.

One happened Friday where one person was taken to the hospital.

ABC17 talked with MODOT engineer, Mike Schupp about MODOT’s section of Route KK. He says that as of right now about 350 drivers drive on their portion that ends at the Mill Creek Bridge. He has not recently seen an increase in drivers.

City Council member Laura Nauser says that Old Mill Creek road needs to be the main focus. “Route KK, while it is a narrow road, it just does not have the traffic or the development that Old Mill Creek has. I think Old Mill Creek, we should look at that first.”

She has lived in the area for years and understands the frustrations. She is already talking to MODOT about making changes after witnessing first hand the dangers of the road.

Scott Boulevard is expected to reopen before the school year, helping with the traffic on the narrow roads.
