Cole Co. commissioners hear salary study presentation

The Cole County Commission heard a presentation Monday morning from representatives in Boone County regarding salary studies.

Jenna Redel, the director of human resources for Boone County, gave the presentation on how Boone County officials did an internal salary study there. Redel told the commission doing a study internally has benefits and costs. According to Redel, while it does allow for a more accurate representation of the specific county’s needs, it can also fracture working relationships of employees and damage morale.

Presiding Commissioner Sam Bushman tells ABC 17 News the commission plans to use Boone’s methods as a template to generate ideas for doing the study in-house, rather than hiring a firm.

The study would look at how salaries and benefits in a particular county match up to municipalities of similar size. Commissioners plan to look at salary studies done by other counties as well.

Tonight, the Jefferson City Council is expected to discuss doing a salary study for city employees.
