Motorcyclist flown to University Hospital after crash

A motorcyclist was life-flighted to University Hospital Thursday night after losing control and crashing on Highway 54 in Jefferson City.

It happened around 9:15 p.m., according toSgt. Doug Ruediger with the Jefferson City Police Department.

Sgt. Ruediger said the motorcyclist was coming off 179 onto Highway 54 when he lost control. The motorcycle went into the ditch, throwing the driver from the vehicle.

The motorcyclist received serious life-threatening injuries.

No other vehicles were involved with the crash.

Emergency crews blocked off all lanes of Highway 54 near the intersection shortly after the crash. The highway was still completely blocked off as of 10:30 p.m. with crews directing traffic off onto the 179 exit.

The Jefferson City Police, Fire Department and Cole County EMS were on the scene.
