Students react to shooting on MU Campus

University of Missouri students are reacting to the shooting that happened Friday night on campus, near Traditions plaza.

MUPD has confirmed that two shots were fired on Friday, and they’re still looking for a suspect.

ABC 17 went on campus to ask students for reaction to the shooting, and a majority of the students that we talked to had no idea there even was a shooting. Students blamed the MU alert system for failing to notify them of the shooting on Friday.

As of Monday, May 9th, MUPD said they have no updates. However, they did tell ABC 17 that they were not aware of any event happening, because there was no request for a security form which is requested when a large crowd is present.

The National Pan – Hellenic Council told ABC 17 that usually for large events a permit is needed, even for Traditions Plaza.

One student told ABC 17 that, “A bit more of an alert would have helped, or any alert cause I didn’t know it happened,” Alex Smith, MU Student told our crews earlier today.

Sariah Pereria told ABC 17 that, “It’s very off putting to be in an environment where these things happen. First of all that they’re happening, and second of all that we’re not being informed about them.”

The investigation is still continuing.
