Cardinals officially hire new manager

ST. LOUIS (KMIZ)

The St. Louis Cardinals officially announced Oliver Marmol as their 51st manager on Monday morning. He will replace Mike Shildt, who was fired earlier this month.

Marmol spent the last three seasons as the Redbirds bench coach. He's been with the organization since 2017.

St. Louis also drafted him as a player back in 2007.

The 35-year-old is now the youngest active manager in the MLB. In fact, Cardinals standouts Yadier Molina, 39, and Adam Wainwright, 40, are both older than him.

"If the player knows that you're prepared, and you have your thoughts organized when you approach them, and you can make them better - they listen to you," Marmol said in a Zoom news conference on Monday. "For me, age is not an impediment. It's just a matter of organization."
