Rain Monday through Wednesday Night
Much needed rainfall moves in this week. We’ve picked up 6.21″ so far since January 1st, which is 6.72″ below normal by May 9th. Storms are likely to increase this afternoon and evening. The strongest storms could have hail up to half dollar size and winds of 60 mph or greater. Instability and wind shear are needed for severe storms. Areas south of I-70 after 3PM look to have the greatest risk where ingredients are favorable. Rainfall today looks to range from 0.50″ to 1″ in Columbia, with higher totals up to 1.25″ in southwest Mid-Missouri counties of Morgan and Benton, and northeast counties of Audrain and northern Montgomery.
Tuesday’s rain chance looks to be hit and miss. Any rain early in the day looks to be in southeast Mid-Missouri and closer to I-44. On Wednesday an approaching cold front will bring the threat for all modes of severe weather in the afternoon and evening again. The threat looks to be from 3PM-9PM. The most favorable conditions for severe storms look to be north of I-70 and west of US 63 by evening. Here is a look a the rainfall totals with this system through early Thursday morning.
