Inmate pleads guilty in assault on corrections officer

An inmate at the Jefferson City Correctional Center has pleaded guilty to attacking a corrections officer in May 2015.

In the attack, Joshua Perkins grabbed a CD player from the female officer and hit her in the back of the head, knocking her unconscious. Perkins then climbed on top of the officer, hitting her more than thirty times in the face with his fist.

As a result of the attack, the officer suffered a number of facial fractures, a broken nose, a broken eye socket, a pelvic fracture, and cuts on her face and ear. After being treated at a hospital, it was expected the officer would make a full recovery.

Perkins has been sentenced to twenty years in prison, consecutive to the current sentence he is serving for unlawful use of a weapon and attempted robbery.
