Plans for new airport terminal are announced

COLUMBIA, Mo- City council heard plans for the new airport terminal on Monday night.

There were numerous designs proposed, but consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff suggested “Alternative 2” as the best one for the needs of the airport. It is the most expensive, around 38 million, and would be built west of Route H, north of the current runways.

With the opportunity to start fresh, the Airport Advisory Board wants to assure that it is done right. One of the chairmen, Greg Cecil said, “This is a great opportunity for those of us in Columbia to push a project forward, really think big and accomplish something that we are really proud of as a community and really have a great impression for those folks that are flying into Columbia.”

To pay for the terminal, city officials have offered up the idea of local and federal funds. One proposition is to raise the lodging tax by 1%.

As for the current terminal, it could be turned into a place for charter flights or general aviation activities.
