Freeze warning causes concerns for crops

Mid Missouri is expecting a freeze warning early Friday morning, meaning a lot of plants and crops that are grown in the area are at risk of freezing if they aren’t properly taken care of.

The owner of Strawberry Hill Farms, Steven Sapp says that he prefers for spring weather to start later because it means there is less likely to be cold weather spots that occur, which could hurt is growing and affect his business.

According to Sapp, getting prepared for the cold night ahead means you use cloth, or cardboard to protect it from the cold weather. Sapp also owns over 20 greenhouses which house plants, fruits, and vegetables. Sapp says that “especially in this climate, and we’re in Mid Missouri you have to have a greenhouse early enough to start plants and get them grown and the right size for people to have them ready.”

Sapp also told ABC 17 that if something were to happen to his greenhouse, not only would he be devastated, but that means that your fruits and vegetable prices could go up.
