Rolla man sent to prison for exploiting the elderly

A man on probation for exploiting the elderly has been sent to prison after prosecutors say he stole again.

In July 2014, Shannon Beam from Rolla was sentenced to 18 years in prison for financial exploitation of the elderly. Instead of prison time, however, the court allowed him the opportunity to complete a drug treatment program. Once Beam completed the program in 2015, he was placed on probation.

In January 2016, prosecutors sought to revoke Beam’s probation amid suspicion he had committed a new burglary and stealing in Maries County, as well as used heroin. The court ruled Beam had violated his probation and revoked it, further ordering the original 18-year sentence to be executed.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Beam could be eligible for parole in 8-12 years.
