Suspect arrested in Machens shooting

UPDATE, Saturday, 9:30 a.m.:

Columbia Police have arrested David Lee Glaser in connection to Friday night’s shooting at Machens Vandiver Sales.

Officers detained Glaser on the 1700 block of Providence, minutes after responding to the shooting. Glaser matched the description of the suspect in the incident and officers saw a gun holster on Glaser’s hip. They also found a gun in his waistband as well as a baggie of methamphetamine.

The police investigation revealed Glaser was a passenger in a car that was on Machens’ property. Glaser got out of the car, and the driver left. He was seen pointed the gun in the direction of the car that was leaving and firing one round.

He is being held on suspicion of Felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Felony Unlawful Possession of a Concealable Firearm. His bonds total $13,500.

Glaser is a convicted felon.

ORIGINAL STORY, 7:55 p.m.

Columbia police officers responded to a shooting at Machens Vandiver Sales at 416 Vandiver Drive Friday night at 7:34 p.m.

Several officers were on another call when they heard a noise that they now know was a fired bullet.

There were 6 police cars on scene, stationed in front of Machens Vandiver Sales, Providence Suites and The Eagle Stop on Providence Road.

Officers encountered a male suspect in the 1700 block of Providence Road and he was detained for questioning.

Police say they don’t believe there are any otheroutstanding suspects and the investigation is on-going.

ABC 17 News has confirmed police are on the scene of a shooting Friday night in central Columbia.

Multiple patrol cars responded to the area around Providence and Vandiver near I-70 just before 8 p.m.

Officers told ABC 17 News they have one person in custodyafter hearing one shot fired. They are currently questioning the man to get more information.
