Severe Storms Possible Tuesday Afternoon/Evening

A cold front will be moving through this evening. As temperatures warm to the mid to lows 70s today, strong to severe storms will be possible late in the day ahead of this front. Timing looks to be from 3PM-8PM. Areas east of US 63 are under a Marginal (low) risk, while areas east of HWY 54 and north of I-70 are under a Slight risk and Enhanced Risk. Areas shaded in yellow and orange have a greater chance to see a strong to severe storm this evening. Large 1″ diameter hail and 60 mph winds will be the greatest threat, with a tornado not ruled out in northeast Missouri. Thunderstorms will likely be tracking to the ENE at 35-40 mph, so rainfall totals should be limited to near .10″ or less. Where the stronger storms occur, perhaps some brief downpours with locally higher amounts, but the better chance is north of I-70. For additional weather updates follow @ABC17Stormtrack on Twitter.
