A look back at the spring and summer weather of 2015
The spring of 2015 started with snow and freezing temperatures in March; those gave way to warmer temperatures and the arrival of the stormy season.
April 7 brought golf ball-sized hail to the area just north of Columbia, and heavy rain caused some area creeks to swell. The next day, a round of storms brought strong winds, knocking down power lines in the La Monte area and turning over a semi truck on I-70. This storm also dropped baseball-sized hail in Bland and golf ball-sized hail in Linn. Finally, on April 9, strong winds knocked a tree onto a trailer in Centralia and damaged a home near Mexico.
May 14 saw the first confirmed tornado of the season; it touched down near Mendon. Another tornado struck Clifton Hill on May 24.
Heavy rain and flooding became an issue in June and July – nearly 16 inches of rain fell over the two months. June ended with a tornado near New Bloomfield and a funnel cloud near Camdenton on the same day.
July 1 brought an outbreak of severe weather, with trees and power lines downed from Sedalia to Iberia. A tornado warning was reported near Columbia, but no funnel cloud touched down. There were two confirmed tornadoes that night, though, in Warsaw and Dixon.
