Dog is still missing after truck is found

COLUMBIA, Mo- Last month David Vaughan walked into a McDonalds off of Clark Lane around 4 in the morning. He left the keys in the ignition to keep his small dog warm. Minutes later, the car was being driven off by a stranger.

Since then, he and his wife Edith have been searching frantically for their dog, fondly named Chico.

On February 27th, police found the truck off of Dear Creek in St. Clair, Missouri. The ignition was ripped out and the license plates were not on the vehicle.

Most people would be thrilled that their car was found but Chico’s owners, David and Edith, were wishing it was their dog. “We were supposed to find Chico first, then the truck….not the other way around.”

ABC17 called around to different shelters in the St. Clair, but none had seen any dogs matching Chico’s description. Edith has also done her fair share of contacting shelters, ” I have the one in town, the one in Jeff City, St. Louis, Kansas City, Booneville, Moberly, all that you can think of that’s around here.”

Edith continues to post on social media. While she expects the worse, she still wants Chico home, “I think he’s gone, but if he’s gone I want him home. So if anybody sees him on the road and he’s gone, I want him. So I still want the phone call.”

Columbia Police said they do not have a suspect for the robbery, but they will continue to investigate. People are urged to call the police if they have any information concerning Chico.
