Judge reduces bond for Audrain Co. man accused in trooper’s death

A judge has lowered the bond for the man charged in connection with the death of a state trooper Wednesday.

Serghei Comerzan was in Montgomery County court Wednesday asking for a bond reduction. The judge lowered Comerzan’s bond to $100,000. It was originally set at $250,000.

If he posts bond, both Comerzan’s license and passport will be revoked.

Comerzan is charged with murder for the death of trooper James Bava. Last August, Comerzan was allegedly speeding in Audrain County. Bava was reportedly chasing Comerzan when his car crashed, killing the trooper.

On February 19, 2016, Comerzan asked for a change of venue from Audrain County. That request was granted, moving his court venue to Montgomery County.
