Mizzou kicks off Homecoming week on Sunday with a new tradition

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou's Homecoming week events started Sunday with a banner competition and a dome lighting concert.

A banner competition took place Sunday at 5 p.m. at Carnahan Quad between Cornell Hall and Strickland Hall.

This year also marks the first year of the dome lighting tradition. This event happened Sunday night at 7:15 p.m. at Traditions Plaza. Live music and free giveaways will be available.

Events will continue on Monday.

  • Oct. 4 @ 6 p.m. – Homecoming Talent Competition:  Jesse Auditorium
  • Oct. 7 - Decorate the District - Individuals can visit The District to see the finished decorations : Downtown Columbia
  • Oct. 8 @ 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Homecoming Headquarters: Reynolds Alumni Center - Circle Drive
  • Oct. 8 @ 6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Campus Decorations: Greek Town, west side of campus between Rollins Street and Kentucky Boulevard.
  • Oct. 8 @ 8:30 p.m. – Homecoming Spirit Rally: Traditions Plaza
  • Oct. 9 @ 9 a.m. – Homecoming Parade: MU Campus and Downtown Columbia
  • Oct. 9 @ 3 p.m. – Homecoming football game: Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium

MU has temporarily reinstated indoor masking requirements. All students, faculty, staff and visitors, regardless of vaccination status, are required to wear a mask in classrooms, as well as meeting spaces where social distancing is not possible.
