Outside BBQ starts field fire in southern Boone County

The Southern Boone County Fire Protection District responded to the 8800 block of Ginn Lane near the Columbia Regional Airport for an outside fire Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived on scene around 2:20 p.m.

Lt. Jason Thomas said the wind blew barbeque scraps that were still smoldering into a field, which sparked a grass fire. The fire burned about a half acre of land.

Fire officials are once again urging residents to be careful with dangerous conditions for outdoor fires.

“All the grass and the vegetation is kind of dead and dormant at this time,” said Lt. Thomas. “So when the wind’s kind of acting like it is today, we need to be careful and not do some outside burning today.”
