Kansas City man sentenced to prison in wife’s shooting death

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (AP) — A suburban Kansas City man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his wife last year. The Kansas City Star reports that 64-year-old Larnell McDonald was sentenced Tuesday in Jackson County Circuit Court after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the killing of 44-year-old Kimah McDonald. The shooting happened Aug. 16, 2020, when police were called to the McDonald home in Independence for a domestic dispute. Arriving officers heard a gunshot as they approached the home and later found Kimah McDonald in a bedroom dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Larnell McDonald said he and his estranged wife were arguing when he pointed a gun at her and that it accidentally fired.
