Weekend snow, bitterly cold air

The weekend will start off with partly cloudy skies and below average temperatures with afternoon temperatures only reaching the lower 30s Saturday. Another surge of arctic air will moves in early Sunday morning, bringing a brief period of light snow.

Snow will start by 4 AM along HWY 24, sliding south to the I-70 corridor 6-8 AM and south of I-70 by mid-morning. As the snow moves south, it will become much lighter and turn to flurries as it approaches the Lake of the Ozarks. Snow will end by early afternoon.

Light accumulation of a dusting to half inch is possible across areas north of HWY 50 with up to an inch north of I-70. Temperatures will remain well below freezing as the snow moves in and it is expected to stick to untreated roads, making for slick travel Sunday morning, especially north of I-70.

Arctic air moves in through the day Sunday with temperatures in the teens to lower 20s in the afternoon, falling to the single digits Sunday night. Dangerously cold wind chill readings of 10 to 15 below zero are expected by early Monday morning with a northwesterly breeze at 7-10 mph.
