Mizzou tackles name, image, and likeness legislation

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

It is the first season that football teams around the country will have to deal with the affects of newly passed name, image, and likeness legislation.

Ever since the policy passed in July of 2021, quite a few members of the MU football team have taken advantage of the opportunity.

"I kind of stuck with food cause, you know, that's something I'm comfortable with. I can eat a lot of food. I'm a big guy and I'm comfortable with that," Mizzou offensive lineman Drake Heismeyer said.

Heismeyer has endorsed more than 10 different restaurants on his social media since NIL legislation went through.

"I figured what the heck?," he said. "I'll give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen?"

The Tiger's starting quarterback Connor Bazelak said he hopes that NIL does not affect what happens on the field.

"I don't want it to be a distraction for this season," he said. "I just hope the whole team, everybody just kind of sets it aside, lets somebody else handle it for them during the season."
