Man charged in assault and death of Springfield man
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Springfield police say a 23-year-old man is charged with second-degree murder after a man who was assaulted last week died. Jacob DeJong is accused of assaulting 74-year-old Larry Woods at an apartment complex on Aug. 25. Woods died on Tuesday. A probable cause statement says DeJong became upset when Woods was disrespectful to his female roommate. The statement says Woods was possibly armed with a knife during the fight. Investigators alleged DeJong knocked Woods down and stomped on his head before fleeing the scene. Woods is being held in the Greene County jail.
