FEMA to help disaster relief in Missouri after June storms

WASHINGTON (KMIZ)

Missouri will receive federal disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help recovery efforts in the areas affected by severe weather in late June.

FEMA approved funding for Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Chariton, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau, Montgomery, Saline and 12 other counties to help with emergency work and the repair or replace facilities damaged by the severe storms.

Gov. Mike Parson requested aid in mid-August.

“Due to extremely heavy rains and significant flash flooding in late June, Missouri experienced nearly $7.3 million in damage to roads and bridges alone,” Gov. Parson said. “The joint preliminary assessment teams confirmed that a number of counties endured considerable destruction and response costs, exceeding the state threshold to qualify for federal assistance.”

In the release, the amount approved by FEMA is unknown at this time.

FEMA named David Gervino as the federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.
