Shots fired in north Columbia late Wednesday night
Columbia police officers responded to a shots fired call in north Columbia late Wednesday night.
It’s the tenth shooting in the city during the month of October, which averages out to police responding to a shooting every two days.
Witnesses reported gunfire coming from at least one of two vehicles in the 4400 block of Brown Station Road shortly before midnight.
Police said they believe someone in a green or grey vehicle was following and shooting at a white car.
Officers found a number of shell casings in the road, a spent bullet and bullet fragments. They are not sure how many suspects were involved.
No one was injured and there are no reports of property damage. No arrests have been made.
This is the fourth shooting this month to happen in northeast Columbia.
On October 20, CPD was called to the 2300 block of Andy Drive at 1:23 a.m. for reports of shots fired. Less than 12 hours later, they responded to the 2500 block of Quail Drive for another shooting.
All three of these shooting locations are within three miles of each other.
According to the Columbia Police Department’s website, they have investigated 56 shootings so far this year. That averages to a shooting almost every five days in the city.
