Moberly police receive multiple reports of break-ins
Moberly police said Friday they’ve taken over 50 reports for vehicle and home break- ins in the last week and a half.
Chief Russell Tarr said numerous items have been reported stolen in multiple subdivisions, including Homestead and Parkwood, two tucked away neighborhoods in south Moberly. But he said the break-ins are happening all over the city.
The burglars went through several cars at Tom Sanders’ house in the Parkwood neighborhood last Friday. Sanders, the interim city manager for Moberly, said officers saw his daughter’s car’s dome light on in front of the house. Further investigation showed someone rooted through four cars at the house, taking only a few items.
“The glove boxes were open, the consoles were open,” Sanders said. “Clearly, they’d went through.”
Sanders said nearly a dozen people in the neighborhood also reported missing items from their cars, mainly wallets and guns. While Sanders said his car was unlocked, it’s not clear if all the cars hit had their doors locked.
“I’ve met with some of them, talked with some of them,” Sanders said of his neighbors. “We’re trying to organize, maybe have a neighborhood meeting. I’ve been wanting to do that anyhow, so this will be a good lead in to get a neighborhood group.”
It’s unknown right now if these break-ins are related to the cases in Centralia and Fulton. Tarr said his department is in contact with other agencies comparing cases.
He said anyone with information about the recent break ins can call the Moberly Police Department or 660-269-TIPS to remain anonymous.
