Winds Expected to Shift and Strengthen on Monday

Tonight into tomorrow morning, a weak cold front will slide southeastward through Missouri. Although this front will not bring any wet weather or a drastic cool down in temperatures, it will noticeably affect the wind pattern, causing winds to shift in direction and increase in speed.

After our region has been receiving a predominantly southerly wind flow for the past couple of days, we will see winds shift to the northwest early Monday morning behind the approaching front. These winds will usher in a much drier air mass, complete with slightly cooler temperatures and low relative humidity values in the mid 20% to mid 30% range.

Not only will these winds make a shift in direction, but they will also intensify in speed. Tomorrow, we could see winds gust up to 28mph by 2pm.

High winds coupled with dry conditions make fire weather a concern. Although tomorrow’s conditions are expected to come close to meeting the threshold for critical fire weather conditions, no advisories have been issued.
