A Jefferson City man was arrested Tuesday after police said he hit his girlfriend in the head with a golf club.

48-year-old Sylvester Vernell is charged with second degree domestic assault for the incident that happened on Case Avenue.

The victim’s head hit a door after the strike from the golf club, causing a cut to her forehead.

The victim said Vernell refused to let her leave the room to get treatment for her injuries.
