West Central Columbia Neighborhood Association development plans to be reviewed

A central Columbia neighborhood is set to review the most recent development plans involving the West Central Columbia Neighborhood Association with the community Wednesday night at City Hall.

This is the first attempt for city leaders to get resident involved in their own development plans.

They introduced the project last September and have encouraged residents in the central Columbia area to meet with them and work on the draft.

They’ve relied upon constant community input, especially through the use of online surveys.

Community and city leaders have decided to focus on three main topics: neighborhood character, land use and zoning, and transportation and infrastructure.

Within these three main topics, there are different priorities including things like constructing sidewalks where there haven’t been any, adding green space or parks, and up-zoning or down-zoning different parcels of land.

The area has several boundaries, including Broadway to the south, McBaine and Sexton to the east, Business Loop 70 to the north, and Stadium Blvd to the west.

The plan should be introduced to the planning and zoning commission in November. The commission and city council will have to approve the plan before it moves on to the next steps.
