Boone Co. gun permit applications on the rise
The number of Boone County residents applying for conceal and carry permits is on the rise.
The Sheriff’s Department was in front of the Boone County Commission Monday for a budget amendment to increase the department’s revolving fund because of the rise in permit requests.
They’re up over last year, and soon to be on par with 2013, which saw extremely high numbers.
Sheriff’s officials said its unclear what’s causing the increase.
“Hard to say if the community’s growing. The weather’s nice for some of that stuff. It could be the current trends you’re seeing in society. Any of those things could play a role in that,” said Captain Gary German.
Boone County commissioners had the first reading Monday.
There’s no word yet on when they will vote on the measure.
