32 dogs rescued from animal hoarding situation near Russellville
32 dogs were rescued on Thursday from an animal hoarding situation inside one trailer near Russellville, southwest of Jefferson City.
The dogs were taken by a task force with the Humane Society of Missouri because of their filthy living conditions. They rescued eight puppies and several other mixed-breed dogs that were living in a double wide trailer, whose owner gave them up voluntarily.
Most of the dogs have severe hair loss, internal and external parasites, along with eye and ear infections.
Investigators believe the animals have had little to no veterinary care. The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Humane Society to recommend charges be filed against the owner.
The dogs will be taken to the Humane Society headquarters in St. Louis where they’ll be examined and treated.
The dogs will not be immediately available for adoption due to their expected healing time.
