State treasurer visits Columbia elementary school

Just a day after University of Missouri officials spoke with elementary school students about going to college, Missouri StateTreasurer Clint Zweifel also encouraged students to invest in their futures.

Zweifel asked 5th graders at Battle Elementary School to participate in a statewide drawing contest where they could win thousands of dollars for school tuition.

Zweifel said the believes the road to higher education starts early and is a shared responsibility.

“One semester at a time, right, one year at at time, beginning to save money for these things, and then also making sure your child is part of the process
as they get older too. What responsibilities are you going to have grade wise, scholarship wise, part-time job to help also with that responsibility,” said Zweifel.
